About the Authors

Hello! Maybe you're wondering a little about your authors. Wonder no longer! Look no farther! Well, maybe to the end of this page :P

About Berea:

As you may have gathered, my name is Berea and I am originally from Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, but in 2018 we ended up in Richibucto, New Brunswick. (No, I'm not a New Brunswicker yet!) I am currently taking a yearlong break from all school and focusing on saving for my hopes of community college in fall 2019. I'm the second of four in my family, along with Kyle (currently at NBCC), Silas, and Abi, who are in homeschool-high school. My dad works in our area and my mom patiently teaches the younger ones and worries about us older ones. I work at a local bakery full time and teach fiddle part time. I love the bakery, but teaching is very close to my heart! We belong to Cornerstone Church, here in Richibucto.

I love to play my violin. I play mostly Irish and Cape Breton styles, but am growing to love Scottish as if it's ingrained in my bones. I'm a total fangirl to my favorite bands (which include The Willis Clan, Tenth Avenue North, and numerous pop and folk artists). Reading, baking, knitting, and playing with my goldendoodle, Reuben, also occupy a lot of my free time. While I greatly enjoy a good romantic suspense novel, with work recently the only reading I've squeezed in is my personal devotions and a few Christian books. However, I find joy and inspiration in that. I've always dabbled in writing, but it is something I love doing and I'd like to pursue it more consistently. I've written a few of my own pieces: mostly fictional short stories. Writing nonfiction is a challenge for me, which I am eager to take on with this blog.

God saved me when I was eleven years old. For as long as I could remember, He had been working away at me, weighing my actions on my conscience, until I just couldn't handle it anymore. I was being smothered under my own sin, but I was a stubborn child and was too indignant to give in to God's call. On June 29, 2011, on a rainy drive, we were listening to an audio drama of C.S. Lewis' The Last Battle, where all those who opposed Aslan were thrown into utter darkness. God showed me through the audio, that I was on my way to Hell and I was helpless without Him. From that point on, although I struggled with assurance of my faith and different temptations and trials, God revealed Himself more and more to me, and He is so precious to me now.

About Brooke:

Hey, so I'm Brooke! I live in Fredericton, New Brunswick. I am a home school graduate, currently working away at some online courses on Ligonier Connect while working part time.

I love rabbits, writing, playing bass and violin, studying the word of God, and spending time with my family.

I live with my parents, and two brothers. My dad works for a disaster relief company, and mom runs a home business called The Lost Book, selling her handmade journals and note books. My brothers are Zackery and Justus. Yes, they are annoying at times, but I love them SO MUCH! I couldn’t have asked for better siblings to grow up with! They have shaped me into the person I am today and challenged me to be more Christ like in ways they don’t even know. Do we look like such a perfect family? We're not, but God is enabling me to see through the difficulties to the treasure He has placed around me!

Growing up in a Christian home all my life, I have been blessed to have had the gospel taught and displayed by my parents since I can remember. So, I can't pin point an exact date when God saved me. One night when I was five or six, my dad showed me the law of God and asked me if I broke His commandments. I nodded my head to all of them. Then he told me about Jesus and how he came to take my punishment. I remember crying in my pillow and asking God to forgive me. I also remember another day, telling God that as soon as I walked out of the room I was in, I would live for Him the rest of my life. I believe these instances were when the wheels started turning.

God is continuing to teach me and sanctify me. He has so clearly spoken to me through His word and answered so many of my prayers. He has brought trials and hardships, but has always given me the strength to go through them. I have not arrived yet. Still, God's love for me is steadfast, even when my love for Him lacks terribly. So, I press on with the hope of spending eternity with Him!

"I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Phil 3:14

Ezekiel's prediction and Christ's fulfillment

Ezekiel Chapter 4-5 There are four object lessons in this passage that display the type of judgement that was coming for Israel and Judah.  First (Ezekiel 4:1-3): Ezekiel was commanded to draw the map of Jerusalem on a clay brick and demonstrate how the city would be attacked and destroyed.  Second (Ezekiel 4:4-8): Ezekiel was commanded to lie on his left side for 390 days, symbolic of the 390 years Israel disobeyed God, and 40 days on his right side, symbolic of the 40 years Judah lived in rebellion against God; and do this while starring at the model of the siege of Jerusalem and prophesying against it. Third (Ezekiel 4:9-17): He was to prepare bread to ration out while he lied on his side and cook it over manure. This symbolized how God would make them eat defiled bread in the land of the gentiles where he would scatter them and where they would starve.  Fourth (Ezekiel 5:1-4): Ezekiel was commanded to shave his hair and divide it into three equal parts. 1/3 was...

Betrothed to Christ

I was reading in Exodus and was reminded of the beautiful picture of Christ and His bride. In Exodus 21:7-11, you find a peculiar law about maidservants: 1) She does not bide by the same laws as the menservants, which can leave their master after six years. 2) If her master who has betrothed her to himself is not pleased  with her, he cannot sell her to the gentiles, but must let her be redeemed; because he has dealt unfaithfully and deceitfully with her. 3) If her master has betrothed her to his son, he must treat her like his daughter. 4) His son must provide for her food, clothes, and duty of marriage and cannot diminish them if he takes another wife. If he does, the maidservant can leave for free. Weird? Kind 'a, but it makes sense. Then God popped a thought into my head about Hosea. Hosea was a prophet who was told by God to marry a harlot to illustrate God's love for Israel. Now at one point Gomer, Hosea's wife, left him for another man and ended up getti...

Judges 17 - Partial Obedience Doesn't Exist

I was doing my morning reading through the book of Judges and was shocked at how twisted this man named Micah was. The chapter starts off with him stealing from his mother, then returning the money, then she makes him an idol out of the returned money, and he makes his son the priest of his idols. Later, a Levite comes by and he hires him to be the priest instead of his son and says: "Now know I that the Lord will do me good, seeing I have a Levite to my priest." Judges 17:13 How can this guys definition of right and wrong be so thwarted? How can he think God is pleased with his actions? Sure he hired God's ordained ministers to be his priest (Lev7:35), but he was worshiping a idol! He wasn't even worshiping the one true God! So he wasn't obeying the Levite Priest law, because he broke a much more serious law: "Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in the heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is...
