Quest For Joy

Recently our family drove from Nova Scotia to Ontario to visit family and friends whom we had not seen in a while. Before I went, I sent a message to a relative. It said, "Can I ask a favour of you?" The reply was "Of course!" I replied, "I was wondering if you could please read the following pamphlet at least twice before [we arrive in ON], and then we can we get together and talk about it."  I included 6 pictures: one for every page of John Piper's Gospel tract entitled Quest for Joy . Thankfully the reply I received was, "Ok. Looking forward to that." I was prepared for a different answer. I wish I could convey in words how encouraged I was to hear that the light was green. This would turn out to be the second (and hopefully not the last) conversation with this person about the Gospel. ...

The Holiness of God

Is there anything in your life, that you wished you had a higher, more intentional view on? Something you wish you'd taken more seriously or put more time into? Maybe you realize if you had done these things, everything would have fallen into place a lot easier? For me this thing was my schooling. I could have given it a lot more: had a higher view of it. Maybe later things would have fallen into place better. For my secondary education, I plan to be much more intentional, because it may effect my entire working career. To me, if there was one thing in our Christian walk that we could view higher and think more critically about, it would be the holiness of God and honouring His power. We've lost our devotion to knowing Him and His attibutes, specifially, His holiness...or, never had it in the first place. We tend to be caught up in what God can do, and does indeed do for me and you , that we don't bother searching the scriptures specifically to learn about, and und...

A Call To Purity

In Genesis we read the stories of two major cities: Sodom and Gerar (Gen 18-20). We see God's mercy and justice in both cities. We see God's sovereignty and the influence of Abraham's prayers in both cities. One city fears God and is spared, but the other has no fear of God and is destroyed. Sodom: A city with no fear of God (Gen 18-19) Chapter 18 starts off with a visit to Abraham from three men, who are believed (by most biblical theologians) to be two angles (who save Lot and his family in the next chapter) and the Lord, Jesus. God reveals His plan to Abraham that Sodom and Gomorrah's sins are very grievous, and that He plans to destroy the two cities. Abraham takes on his God given role as prophet (Gen 17:1, 18:19, 20:7), and comes before God on behalf of the people in this city. So God agrees to spare the city for the sake of ten righteous people. God is sovereign: Here we see God's sovereignty and the act of prayer come together. God had alread...

Are you worried?

God is the same God in the past history of the Bible, as He is this very minute. What He promises, He keeps. What He does, lasts forever. His faithfulness endures forever. His character never changes. We have the entire Bible proclaiming who He is and His promises to us. Of old You laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You will remain. (Psalm 102:25 & 26)   - He REMAINS Their cry for rescue from slavery came up to God. And God heard their groaning, and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. God saw the people of Israel—and God knew. (Exodus 2:23-25)   - This is obviously talking about the Hebrews in slavery. But He is still here now, just as close as He was then!   - God is still SEEING, REMEMBERING, WATCHING, and KNOWING us! Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak... (Exodus 4:12)    - He is still helpi...
